FALSIDE: "Snare Conditioning" Available Now.

PDP's Falside gets up in your summer-beat-tape-holes (I'm bad at sex) with Snare Conditioning. Due to its nostalgia-demanding sample selection and laid-back nature, this is probably my favorite of his seasonal installments yet. PROLLY. Props to the kid.

Producer Falside links up with ProducersIknow.com to bring you his newest instrumental installment, Snare Conditioning. Best known for providing beats to a slew of hip hop’s veteran luminaries and eager new-comers alike, Falside holds the boom bap tradition tight with this latest beat tape. Please download, listen, share, and enjoy!

METERMAIDS: Rooftop Shake.

My mens and them Metermaids have been great friends to SD & PDP over the years. Since (now SFR-labelmate) Prolyphic introduced us about 4 years ago, we've rocked together in each of our hometowns, slept on each others floors, and made music together that will reach your ears sooner or later. Most importantly, we've laughed at all the same things, all the right things, and ate some lovely-ass pizza.

And now worlds collide: Metermaids have signed a deal with Strange Famous Records (where I spend my days under the title of 'Label Manager'). You should buy their new record, cuz its dope dope dope. Three times dope.

Metermaids’ SFR debut “Rooftop Shake” drops Sept 6! Pre-Order & FREE MP3 Available Now!

METERMAIDS, a Brooklyn-based duo consisting of emcees Sentence and Swell, often refer to themselves as “the Bad News Bears of hip-hop.” However, after teaming up with the X-Ecutioners DJ Rob Swift, receiving production from Grammy Award Winner 9th WONDER, and pulling in vocal contributions from indie-hop legends SAGE FRANCIS & BUCK 65, their “ROOFTOP SHAKE” LP is set to turn that self-deprecation on its head.

2 exclusive pre-order packages are available now from SFRstore!

Package 1: CD / Instrumental CD / Bonus Items Pack
Package 2: CD / Instrumental CD / T-SHIRT / Bonus Items Pack

Also available: the first SFR Metermaids T-Shirt!

GRAVEYARD SHIFT – Metermaids by Strange Famous Records

The lack of chest thumping bravado on this record is a breath of fresh air in a music scene that’s been drowning in fantasy rap for over a decade. However, don’t confuse the Metermaids’ too-honest-to-fake-it approach with one of ambivalence. At its core, the “Rooftop Shake” LP is an upbeat homage to a more grimy NYC aesthetic sans the overt braggadocio. The main theme of the album deals with two Brooklyn transplants coming to terms with life in the Big Rotten Apple, which is one of beauty as well as grit.

9th Wonder (Jay Z, Little Brother, Murs) provides the soulful sonic backdrop for half of the album and even pokes his head into the vocal booth to make some incredibly rare appearances on the mic. DJ Rob Swift essentially acts an honorary member of Metermaids, accentuating each track by doing what he does best; handling the cuts and adding the stylistic cherry on top. The songs that aren’t produced by 9th are handled by M. Stine, the main contributor to the Metermaids’ previous EP efforts which garnered them over 100,000 downloads as well as the attention of Sage Francis, ultimately leading to their signing on Strange Famous Records. As head of the label, Francis confidently assures the audience that, “If Bill Buckner rapped, it certainly wouldn’t sound like this. They should stop saying stuff like that.”

Words from Falside on the subject:

"Peep science, grouches. So I have this new Beat Tape dropping (god knows when) in the next month. It’s fittingly called “Snare Conditioning” (get it?) – and I got this wacky idea to press it on Cassettes! (remember?). ESH & DOX: Invisible.

It's not skinny jean rap. It's skinny guys in jeans rap. It's London and Tokyo, the distance between these things.

Esh the Monolith & Dox Gooden of Poorly Drawn People have released their long-percolating EP Invisible, and we like it a lot. It features raps by Esh, beats by Dox, cuts by DJ Emoh Betta, and appearances by Labeless Illtelligence's Cas Uno and Intrikit. And it's FREE.

Word in the mansion halls is that a limited edition vinyl release will be available in the fall. We'll keep you posted.

For now, click here to get your weekend playlist, already all programmed for ya. Tell your friends.

DOX & ESH: Soap Scum.

My friends continue to make excellent music. You should continue to listen.

"Soap Scum" is a joint off the forthcoming Invisible EP: A collaborative effort between Labeless Illtelligence emcee Esh the Monolith & Poorly Drawn People Producer Dox. The "Half an Album" will feature guest appearances from CasUno (Labeless Illtelligence), Intrikit (Enviamentally Fresh Music), KiKi (Her Damn Self) & the turntable wizardry of DJ Emoh Betta (Milled Pavement). Recorded & mixed at The Bridge Sound & Stage in Cambridge.

REASON & DIRTY HANK: The Monty Brogan EP

Reason of Poorly Drawn People and Dirty Hank have been drinking together for years (straight) now, and, as you may be aware, when rappers drink, rappers rap. Sometimes, these raps are best left to in the rearview mirror of the next day's hangover, but at the PDP Compound, sometimes, the best of these drunken brainstorming sessions get committed to (invisible digital) tape and the world is blessed with the product of that inebriation.

The Monty Brogan EP has been a topic of discussion in the halls of the PDP Mansion for some time, and we're pleased to announce that an announcement is forthcoming.

For now, video proof of intent, courtesy of Falside:

2011 Providence Phoenix Best Music Poll!

The 2011 Providence Phoenix Best Music Poll is here!

And... nope, neither Storm Davis nor Poorly Drawn People are nominated.

After our 4th year in a row of pounding our esteemed competition into the ground, our friends at the Phoenix (RI's premiere alternative & arts weekly newspaper) pulled us aside and gently declared that, for the good of the community, we would be declared ineligible in the next poll. It seemed reasonable enough to us.

Well, the next poll is here.

Just because you can't vote for us, that doesn't mean you shouldn't make a last minute ballot out and vote for your choice of our many friends who've been nominated. So, we recommend you head over here and exercise your Democratic muscles by voting for any of the following artists:

BEST HIP HOP
Dirty Hank
Chachi
Jon Hope

BEST SONG
Cas Uno, "Sticks Out Like A Sore Thumb"

BEST ACOUSTIC/SINGER-SONGWRITER
Brian McKenzie

BEST MALE VOX
Jay Berndt

BEST ALBUM
Jay Berndt, Sad Bastard Songs

BEST ACT
Six Star General
VulGarrity

BEST FEMALE VOX
Mandy Allan [Girl Haggard]

BEST LOUD
Kanerko

BEST PUNK/GARAGE
Prayers For Atheists

Feel free to make your own decisions when it comes to the rest of the categories. :)

Thanks to all of you who have voted for us in the past, to all of the artists who we endorse for making music that we dig, and to the staff of the Phoenix for their enduring support.

***All recommended artists were selected by Storm Davis for you consideration. Any issues with his choices can be brought up with him. Leave the rest of PDP alone.
